Bremerhaven is one of the most high trafficked sea ports in all of the EU. As part of the EU, shipping cars to Germany from a country outside the EU is classified as a called non-community good. Imported non-community goods through the port of Bremerhaven, or other port in Germany, must be cleared through the necessary customs procedures:
Free Circulation: Once a good is declared for free circulation it is free to circulate throughout the EU without any barriers to trade, such as tariffs and fees. If you declare your vehicle to go into free circulation upon arrival at the port, you must pay your import duties at that time. More info on free circulation.
Inward processing: If your car is simply going through the EU after being shipped through Bremerhaven or any other port in the EU, you can declare the car for inward processing. This will avoid import levies from being charged.
Transit: Cars can be imported Through a port such as Bremerhaven and forwarded to an inland customs office duty free if it is marked Transit. Duties will then be levied at the inland customs office.
Customs Warehouse: Vehicles can also be transported to a customs warehouse without having to pay any duty or taxes upon arrival in a port such as Bremerhaven. Import duties and taxes are charged once the car leaves the customs warehouse. Keep in mind that time limits may be imposed on your car while in the customs warehouse.
Duties Charged on Motor Vehicles
- passenger cars 10 %
- quads 10 %
- motorbikes up to 250 cubic capacity 8 %
- motorbikes more than 250 cubic capacity 6 %

I want to import my car (Nissan Sentra 03) into Germany via ship from the USA. I would like to know what my import costs will be. Is it the 10% as mentioned on your website? Also, are there any other fees that I will have to pay?
